help! teaching consumer science?

kids science games

i teach 7th and 8th grade consumer science (formerly home ec.) i see the classes once a week for 70 min. two classes are small and have 25 kids. i need some project ideas with these limitations: absolutely no money, no cooking on the stove or oven. i am in this school only this one period per day. the staff are pretty unfriendly, the kids are pretty unruly, i have a text book from the 80’s and the curiculum is anything related to life skills. i like to do hands on stuff. the best projects so far were: friendship bracelets, painted t’s and valentine projects from kits from walmart. i paid for all that stuff myself. the school is in the city, most kids are pretty low income, they like fashion, game systems, thier names on things, thier horoscope sign, celebrities, tweetie, pooh, and thier relationships with each other (dating, fighting, etc)
so, please pass on any good ideas!!
thanks

How do I get a job teaching community college with my history?

kids science games

I have an M.D., but never practiced medicine. I have been tutoring junior high- and high school kids in math, science, and some English for several years with various franchises and small companies, while following my wife here and there while she is pursuing higher medical education. Am I behind in the game? How do I increase my stock/chances? (I’m thinking of teaching anatomy and physiology to nursing and allied health students. I considered going back to school to get certified for teaching math and/or science on the secondary level, but I can’t afford it.)
I got my M.D. six years ago.

Are there any educational video games for 12 year old boys?

kids educational games

I have a 12 year old brother who does not do too well in school. He hates school and anything to do with it. He is not a bad kid, he just doesn’t understand and we can’t seem to get through to him.

Since he loves playing video games I was hoping that there are some educational games that would not be too kid like and that he would be interested in. He loves any kind of action games, especially ones having to do with the military. So maybe I can trick him in to learning, he would be having fun learning and not even realize it.

Can anyone help?

science games

For school science fair that is coming up soon we are supposed to have a project/study/experiment that has meaning, like why would we want to know this stuff, etc.

And upon playing Call of Duty on Xbox Live, I’ve realized just how addicting these games are, so is there anything science related? And if yes - what?

What are some fun and educational games to play with 6-12 year olds?

kids educational games

I just started tutoring in a local minority neighborhood. I know some of you will be tempted to recommend cheesy little kid games. These kids have hard lives and have been exposed to things that have gotten them past the immature games. I’m looking for games that would actually be fun for them so that they can feel like I’m actually talking with them instead of down to them.
